Care at home
What a caregiver does at home
The daily help a live-in caregiver gives, and the limits of the role.
Updated
A foreign caregiver lives in the home and is meant for a person who needs help or supervision for most of the day. The aim is to let the person remain in a familiar place, with the family still involved.
The daily help includes the following. The actual scope is set by the contract, the permit, and the law. Not every family needs every item.
- Bathing, dressing, and changing incontinence products.
- Preparing food, help with eating, shopping, and cooking for the patient’s needs.
- Supervision during the day and night, and help with a wheelchair or a walker.
- Escort to the health fund and to errands outside the home, including visits.
- Reasonable help with the patient’s household.
- Presence in hospital when the patient is admitted, within the hours set by law.
